HR Advisor – WSIB/Disability/Claims Management – YYZ (Toronto Pearson)

REPORTING TO:          Manager, Human Resources and Labour Relations




The HR Advisor – WSIB/Disability/Claims Management works alongside the HR department to facilitate successful oversight of WSIB/Disability/Claims Management.




  • Facilitates claims management for employees in Central Region and contributes to attaining the regional goals for claims management
  • Assisting the Absence and Disability Advisor with Workplace Safety Insurance (WSIB) and accommodation as needed
  • Management of return to works, workplace accommodations, effective management of NEER cost and WSIB management
  • Acts as oversight to ensure bases within the assigned division carry out required OHS activities as outlined by HQ
  • Collaborates with internal partners and managers to support back to work programs including LOA, STD, WCB and accommodations
  • Works in conjunction with HQ to manage documentation requirements for WCB claims, Insurance claims for STD and LTD
  • Participates in internal and external audit programs.
  • Coordinating with Training and Resource departments on employee’s return to work from medical or other leave
  • Consults with labour relations to support day to day collective agreement issues, grievance investigations and resolution with management and the union up to preparation for arbitration as it relates to claims and WSIB
  • Applying good housekeeping standards of SIGMA HR and maintain claims records of employees
  • Manage the Occupational Health and Safety Prevention program.
  • Co-Chair of the Joint Health and Safety Committee
  • Other Human Resources tasks, as assigned
  • Assisting with employee complaint investigations and meetings as needed by the Labour Relations Specialists


Education and skills required


  • Post Secondary Education (diploma, degree or certificate) in Human Resources is required
  • 2 – 4 years experience in Human Resources
  • Understanding of employment related legislation such as: Canada Labour Code, Occupational Health & Safety Act and Ontario Human Rights Code
  • Strong knowledge of WSIB and Health and Safety practices
  • Strong leadership, decision making, and problem solving abilities
  • Ability to multitask and produce results in a fast paced environment
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Flexibility in schedule with the ability to work outside of regular office hours
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, Outlook, Visio and PowerPoint
