REPORTING TO: Senior Manager, Human Resources and Labour Relations



The Human Resources Business Partner (HRBP), on all employee related matters, partners with internal and external stakeholders to provide support, and guidance. The Human Resources Business Partner is responsible for aligning business objectives of the company throughout the organization in relation to Labour Relations, employee relations, performance management, relationship management, employee engagement and organizational change.





  • Ensuring stakeholders are supported to deal with all employee relation cases in accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement and best practice
  • Maintain effective relationship with the Union by conducting weekly meetings to review grievances, complaints, and all other concerns the Union/Employees may have
  • Identify strategies for continuous improvements within the organizations to increase quality and proficiency
  • Analyze, interpret and adhere to the language of the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) within a unionized workforce
  • Conducting workplace investigations to address issues or incidents, in order to promote a safe environment for all employees free of violence, harassment or favouritism
  • Assisting in complaints arising from the CIRB (Canadian Industrial Relations Board), the CHRC (Canadian Human Rights Commission), and internal stakeholders in situations regarding a unionized environment
  • Prepare summary reports and briefings outlining investigation of grievance and possible solution for issue at hand between the origination and the bargaining unit
  • Providing directions, clarification and support with progressive discipline to Performance Managers and the Operational Team 



  • Implementing organizational process, policies and procedures to increase efficiency to meet strategic business objectives
  • Providing expertise in investigation of complaints and concerns.
  • Ensuring workplace through the introduction of mediation, diffusing difficult situations providing feedback and action plans
  • Communicating new policies, procedures and organizational updates to all employees through the use of bulletins, employee self-service portal and town halls
  • Supporting management in disciplinary meetings and responsible for the compliance of all progressive steps
  • Conducting exit interviews with departing managers along with coaching and mentoring managers to effectively apply Human Resource policies and procedures
  • Overseeing the Annual Employee Evaluations for employees and 30-60-90 day reviews for newly hired employees
  • Facilitating requests from third parties to ensure that the company is meeting the customer SLA
  • Participating in employee appreciation and recognition events to motivate employees and create a positive working environment
  • Fostering an open-door environment conducive to positive dialogue and to build a stronger relationship across all departments, managers and employees



  • Liaise with business agents and stakeholders to ensure the strategic goals and operation of the organization are met
  • Liaise with the client regarding the Contract Compliance Program audits pertaining to Performance Management and document control
  • Ensuring the compliance of policies, procedures and legislations within the company and resolved open Corrective Action Reports to ensure compliance
  • Collaborate and partner with the HR Department to develop solutions, programs, and policies
  • Provide HR policy guidance and interpretation related to company policies, the collective bargaining agreement, and federal employment laws
  • Maintaining communication and a positive relationship with union members to ensure a common understanding, while working to achieve the strategic goals set in place by the organization
  • Management of grievances at Level Two ensuring that action plans are in place for the resolution and tracking.
  • Weekly Level Two grievance meetings with designated Union Chief Steward
  • Assisting in the recruitment, selection, onboarding, support, guidance and development of all employees
  • Other duties as assigned



  • A university degree or college diploma, preferably in human resources, is required or equivalent experience3 to 5 years of generalist experience in Human Resources and Labour Relations
  • Excellent knowledge of current HR legislation including CIRB, CLC, OHRC, ESA
  • Effective verbal and written and communication skills
  • Ability to multitask and produce results in a fast paced environment
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, Outlook, Visio, PowerPoint)
  • Strong leadership, decision making, and problem solving abilities
  • Flexibility in schedule to work weekend and evenings in a 24/7 environment
