What does a Security Guard in Winnipeg do?
- Facilitate access to restricted areas for authorized persons
- Excessive foot patrols (interior/exterior)
- Responding to tenant requests
- Emergency Response
- Monitor closed circuit cameras
- Coordinate response to incidents
- Respond to telephone calls received by the security department
- Incident and daily reporting according to the site requirement and standards.
- High level customer service to all customers and tenants
- Removal of unauthorized individuals
- React quickly and professionally during emergencies or stressful situations.
- Conflict de-escalation and trauma-informed safety approaches, with a focus on anti-racism and cultural awareness.
- Addressing issues and resolving conflicts as they arise
- Maintains a positive attitude and professional appearance.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills, with fluency in English for clear and calm interactions.
- Provide a visible security presence on all floors of Library and Skywalk during operational hours.
- Control access to the library entrance, including operating metal detection gates and welcoming visitors.
- Offer site information and directions to the public, maintaining a friendly and professional demeanor.
- Collaborate effectively with library staff, Community Safety Hosts, and Crisis Workers to create a safe and welcoming environment.
- Follow opening and closing procedures, including locking/unlocking doors, elevators, and rooms, and activating/deactivating alarm systems.
- Maintain a list of contractors and other visitors
- Maintain detailed logs of unusual occurrences.
Qualifications to become a Security Guard in Winnipeg
- Good verbal and written communication skills
- First Aid training is mandatory to work at the site. If a guard already has it, that will be beneficial; if not, they must be willing to complete it.
- Physically and mentally fit to perform duties.
- Previous experience in the security industry (asset)
- Tactical experience ( Asset)
- Good with Technology
- Valid Manitoba Security Guard license
- Customer service oriented
- Must be able to work day shifts.
- Leadership and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work in a stressful environment
- Strong customer service skills.
- Good computer literacy.
- Familiarity with security systems, including access control, alarm panels, and CCTV.
