Contractors are not entitled to pay while travelling. 

Visa Requirements

The Company shall be responsible and liable for the multi-entry visa cost as required to deliver the Services. Any visa costs incurred by the Contractor shall be reimbursed.

Package

GardaWorld will provide the Independent Contractor with appropriate accommodation, insurance, flights, and life support while on duty.

 

Food, Accommodation and General Expenses:

Company will provide the Contractor with food, drink, transportation, and accommodation as necessary whilst the Contractor is engaged in a project.

 

If Company is unable to provide the Contractor with food, accommodation, and transportation, except as set forth below for inbound and outbound travel to the project location, Company shall either provide a per diem at an agreed rate or reimburse to the Contractor for any travelling, hotel and other expenses reasonably incurred by him in the proper performance of his duties under this Agreement. In the case of the latter, the Contractor must provide Company with such vouchers and receipts or other evidence of actual payment of such expenses as Company may reasonably require. The Contractor shall seek the prior approval by Company for any individual expenses incurred under this Agreement.

Flight Package

GardaWorld will provide an economy class return ticket per rotation to the project location from a hub airport as close as reasonably practicable to the Contractor’s declared home address. 

 

The Contractor will be asked to declare their preferences for a primary, secondary, and tertiary hub airport from the GardaWorld hub list at the commencement of their engagement. Where possible and commercially acceptable, GardaWorld will look to book travel to and from one of the preferred hubs.

 

The Contractor will be responsible for any travel arrangements between the hub airport and their home address.  The Company will pay for any transfers from the airport near the project location or any other intermediate landing location to the Consultant’s accommodation at the project.

 

Further information can be found in the GardaWorld Contractor Travel Standard Operating Instruction (SOI), a copy will be provided upon acceptance.

Role Requirements

Skills & Competencies:

  • Proven leadership and team management skills in a high-risk environment.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with multi-national teams.
  • Strong knowledge of guard force operations, SOP enforcement, and perimeter security.
  • Ability to respond decisively and calmly during emergencies.
  • Good reporting and documentation skills; computer literacy (MS Office, incident logging tools).
  • Fluent in English (spoken and written); or Arabic is a plus.
  • Physically fit and mentally resilient to operate in a conflict-zone environment.

 

Essential Requirements:

  • Military, police, or commercial security background is essential, preferably with supervisory/command experience.
  • Minimum of 5–7 years in a security operations role, with at least 2 years in a leadership position managing guard force teams.
  • Certification in security operations, guard force management, or hostile environment training (e.g. HABC Level 3, SIRA, ISO 18788 awareness) preferred.
  • First Aid or basic trauma care certification is a strong asset.
  • Familiarity with U.S. or NATO base operations and access control standards is preferred.
  • Current and valid UK C or C1 Driver's license (for B6 vehicles) or equivalent
  • Satisfactory completion of a criminal record check within the recent 6 months.

 

Desirable:

  • Experience managing guard force operations for military installations, diplomatic missions, or critical infrastructure projects.
  • Understanding of Iraqi cultural context, tribal dynamics, and regional security landscape.
  • Prior work with international private security contractors or government clients.

Services

Services provided by the contractor shall include, but not be limited to, the provision of leadership and operational oversight in support of static and mobile Guard Force operations at Balad, Iraq. The Deputy Manager is responsible for assisting in the command, control, and daily coordination of all guard personnel, ensuring post coverage, operational readiness, and compliance with all security procedures. This role serves as the second-in-command for Guard Force Operations and assumes full leadership responsibility in the absence of the Guard Force Operations Manager. Services the contractor can expect to carry out, but are not limited to, are as follows:

 

  • Assist in the management of daily Guard Force activities, including supervision of static posts, vehicle patrols, access control points, and perimeter security.
  • Directly supervise shift supervisors, ensuring that all assigned posts are manned, duties executed professionally, and guards maintain a high level of discipline and vigilance.
  • Enforce full compliance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), post orders, Rules of Engagement (ROE), and all base security protocols.
  • Conduct routine inspections of guard posts and personnel to assess operational performance, personal appearance, and situational awareness.
  • Respond to security incidents and emergencies, coordinate immediate response actions, and report all incidents through the established chain of command.
  • Participate in the planning and execution of shift scheduling, guard deployment, and manpower allocation based on operational requirements and threat levels.
  • Maintain accurate records related to incident reports, personnel rotations, equipment checks, disciplinary actions, and guard deployment logs.
  • Provide on-the-job coaching and professional development to shift supervisors and guards to improve individual and team performance.
  • Liaise with the Security Operations Center (SOC), Emergency Response Teams (ERT), and client representatives to ensure coordination during routine and emergency operations.
  • Assist with tracking and managing guard force equipment and logistics, including radios, PPE, lighting, and batons.
  • Contribute to after-action reviews (AARs), post-incident investigations, and periodic updates to SOPs, contingency plans, and security directives.

 

This position is essential to the effective functioning of Guard Force Operations at Balad, Iraq, directly supporting personnel safety, access control, and the integrity of base security infrastructure.
