Campus Public Safety Officers (CPSO) serve as frontline members of the Campus Public Safety team, performing operational security duties to ensure a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment for all members of the Simon Fraser University community. CPSOs actively participate in patrol, response, and community engagement activities while upholding high standards of professionalism and service excellence.

Responsibilities for Campus Public Safety Officer
- Conduct regular patrols of the campus, including the interior and exterior of buildings.
- Communicate with SFU dispatch as required and keep supervisors informed.
- Act promptly in emergencies (fire, medical, or security incidents)
- Administer first aid and CPR until a higher level of care is assumed.
- Remain visible at assigned posts and be attentive to surroundings.
- Ensure alarms, locks, and security systems are functioning properly.
- Inspect and audit safety-related equipment (AEDs, fire extinguishers, naloxone).
- Enforce university policies and deter theft, vandalism, and unauthorized access.
- Maintain detailed logs of activities, incidents, and unusual occurrences.
- Lock/unlock doors and secure entry points according to campus operations.
- Ensure radios, keys/fobs, and PPE are operational.
- Contribute to a team culture rooted in respect, service excellence, and professionalism.
Qualifications for Campus Public Safety Officer
- Legal authorization to work in Canada.
- Valid BC Security Worker’s License.
- Basic Security Training Certificate.
- Intermediate Occupational First Aid Certificate.
- Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) Certificate - an asset
- safeTALK Suicide Prevention Certificate - an asset
- Management of Aggressive Behaviour (MOAB) training - an asset
