Senior Campus Public Safety Officers (SCPSO) serve as frontline leaders, mentors, and a resource for CPSOs. This role combines operational security duties with leadership responsibilities to ensure a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment for all members of the Simon Fraser University community. In addition to their leadership and supervisory functions, Senior CPSOs perform the full range of duties assigned to CPSOs, maintaining active participation in patrol, response, and community engagement activities while setting an example of professionalism and service excellence.

Responsibilities for Senior Campus Public Safety Officer
- Intervene promptly in emergencies (fire, medical, security) and act as the primary first aid/CPR responder.
- Guide, mentor, and support junior officers; provide assistance to supervisors as needed.
- Conduct mobile/foot patrols and maintain a strong on-site presence.
- Coordinate with dispatch and keep supervisors informed.
- Uphold university policies and deter theft, vandalism, and unauthorized access.
- Check alarms, locks, and safety equipment (AEDs, extinguishers, naloxone).
- Record incidents, activities, and shift logs accurately.
- Lock/unlock doors and manage entry points.
- Ensure vehicles, radios, and PPE are operational.
Qualifications for Senior Campus Public Safety Officer
- Legal authorization to work in Canada
- Valid BC Security Worker’s License
- Intermediate Occupational First Aid Certificate
- Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) Certificate - an asset
- Safe Talk Suicide Prevention Certificate - an asset
- Management of Aggressive Behaviour (MOAB) - an asset
- Valid BC Class 5 Driver’s License
- Clean Driver’s Abstract
- Traffic Control Person (TCP) Training - an asset
- Ability to stand, walk, and patrol throughout the shift
