Nchalo or Dwangwa, Malawi.  Country wide travel as required.

Externally: Clients, relevant local agencies and authorities including the Police service

 

Job Summary:

Responsible for the full incident and investigation process, as directed by the relevant SOIs.

Key Responsibilities:

The Investigator is responsible for the critical duty of incident investigations for the GardaWorld Malawi business, duties include but are not limited to:

 

  • Ensuring that investigations are carried out impartially, fairly, professionally, and with respect to human rights, as laid out in the Incident & Investigations SOIs, and GW Human Rights policy, which you must be well versed with.
  • Ensuring the correct investigation formula is used during investigations, which are: Visit to the scene, protection of the scene, collection of all evidence including photographs etc, interrogations/ questioning of witnesses and suspects, recording of questions and statements, recording of your findings, compiling the reports, reviewing of reports to meet standards, and distribution of the reports as required.
  • Ensuring the latest investigation forms are utilized and are completed accurately and in line with the GW standards and quality expectations, including correct font type, size, and colour. The latest forms must be downloaded from GW UIP.
  • Ensuring that witness forms are utilised during all investigations and questioning is relevant and thorough including the reasoning why the individual acted in the manner that they did. Non-document-controlled forms will not be accepted.
  • Ensuring all incidents requiring investigation and are investigated.
  • Maintaining the investigation register.
  • Ensuring incident and investigation reports are delivered within the specified timelines of 24 hours and 10 days respectively, in line with the GW SOIs.
  • Ensuring that a monthly general investigation review is conducted.
  • Attending all Serious Incident After action reviews (AARs)
  • Reviewing your reports, before they can be distributed.
  • Ensuring that any/all recommendations are Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Reasonable and Time Bound (SMART).
  • Where required visiting the local Police, councils, and authorities, for a better understanding and a deeper investigation of the incident, and in line with the investigation objectives.
  • Attending all relevant investigation and compliance meetings, trainings, and seminars without fail, as invited from time to time, to enhance your knowledge and deepen your understanding of your job role.
  • Attend all follow up investigation report meetings on behalf of GW, whenever GW Operations request for such support when a client needs further clarifications on GW investigation findings.

Authority:

As directed and delegated by the Project Manager, HSE & C Manager.

 

Accountability:

The GardaWorld Investigator is accountable to the Project Manager, QHSE and Compliance Manager for responsibilities stated in this job description. These responsibilities will be monitored and managed through the mid-year and annual performance review and supported through the monitoring of KPIs.

Competencies:

  • Excellent English Skills both oral and written
  • Proven analytical skills especially analysing information and data to determine trends and anomalies.
  • A relevant qualification or equal experience in investigations.
  • Experience/Understanding of GardaWorld investigation principles as laid out in incident & investigation SOIs.
  • Highly competent with IT and Microsoft office applications.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure.
  • An understanding of the defence and security sector.
  • Works in an ethical manner, is systematic, methodical, and orderly.
  • Ability to work and interact within teams.
  • Open to travel for the purpose of conducting investigations.
  • Appreciates the need to work beyond the call of duty if necessary.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Must have general understanding of principles in conducting / leading investigations
  • Over 5 years experience of working in the security industry and/or police service as an investigator
  • A solid grasp of the requirements of the GW business management system

 

  • Possession of academic and professional studies to a minimum of a Diploma related to investigations management
