Job Summary:

The Day Handler responsible for the care and handling of Canines.

Key Responsibilities:

1.            Handle Dogs professionally in a harsh and hostile environment outside of Kenya.

2.            Handle dogs; ensuring that good taking/handing over duty procedures are strictly adhered to.

3.            Responsible for all equipment issued.

4.            Maintain a clean and safe environment at all times for all dogs. This includes cleaning duties such as cleaning up dog waste, sweeping, mopping, dusting, disinfecting and cleaning dogs;

5.            Responsible for feeding the Dogs as instructed;

6.            Provide and document the appropriate information about individual dogs and notifying a client and or supervisor of any unusual occurrences as soon as noted.

7.            Abide by company rules and regulations in caring and handling of Dogs

8.            Maintain safety regulations and ensure protection of personal and Client’s life.

9.            Monitor the Dogs health and report any unusual observations made promptly.

Principal Outputs of this Role:

i.              Patrols on a daily basis in a hostile and harsh environment.

ii.             Maintain kennel cleanliness.

iii.            Ensure health and well being of the dogs.

Authority:

Refer to KK Security Authority Matrix.

Accountability:

The Dog Handler is accountable to the Senior Operations Manager – Kenya, but will work under direct management of the client’s onsite Security Manager. These responsibilities will be monitored and managed daily whilst onsite.

Competencies:

•             Fluent in French

•             Ability to perform quality work within deadlines with or without direct supervision

•             Robust individual able to work alone and self-motivate.

•             Ability to interpret and follow instructions

•             Good interpersonal and customer service skills

•             A good team player with a high degree of flexibility

•             Time Management skills

•             Honesty and integrity

Qualifications & Experience:

•             O’ level of education and Guards Basic course

•             Fluent in French

•             At least two (2) years’ experience in and operational canine service. UN or uniformed forces service a plus

•             Dog handling course and decoy training

•             Must understand dog behaviour and human interaction

•             Must be able to understand dog bites composition

•             Be comfortable working alone
