GardaWorld offers a competitive daily rate (Contractor will only be paid whilst on-duty – no payment made for Off-duty) 

 *subject to local tax (if applicable) 

Duty Rotation

8 weeks on, 4 weeks off, subject to operational requirements

Travel Pay

Contractors are not entitled to pay while travelling. The first day of pay is the day of arrival in the country of operations. The last day of pay is the day of departure from the country of operations.

Visa Requirements

The Company shall be responsible and liable for the multi-entry visa cost as required in order to deliver the Services. Any visa costs incurred by the Contractor shall be reimbursed.


GardaWorld will provide the Independent Contractor with appropriate accommodation, insurance, flights and life support while on duty.

Food, Accommodation and General Expenses:

Company will provide the Contractor with food, drink, transportation and accommodation as necessary whilst the Contractor is engaged in a project.

If Company is unable to provide the Contractor with food, accommodation and transportation, except as set forth below for inbound and outbound travel to the project location, Company shall either provide a per diem at an agreed rate or reimburse to the Contractor for any travelling, hotel and other expenses reasonably incurred by him in the proper performance of his duties under this Agreement. In the case of the latter, the Contractor must provide Company with such vouchers and receipts or other evidence of actual payment of such expenses as Company may reasonably require. The Contractor shall seek the prior approval by Company for any individual expenses incurred under this Agreement.

Flight Package

GardaWorld will provide an economy class return ticket per rotation to the project location from a hub airport as close as reasonably practicable to the Contractor’s declared home address.

The Contractor will be asked to declare their preferences for a primary, secondary and tertiary hub airport from the GardaWorld hub list at the commencement of their engagement. Where possible and commercially acceptable, GardaWorld will look to book travel to and from one of the preferred hubs.

The Contractor will be responsible for any travel arrangements between the hub airport and their home address.  The Company will pay for any transfers from the airport near the project location or such other intermediate landing location to the Consultant’s accommodations at the project.

Further information can be found in the GardaWorld Contractor Travel Standard Operating Instruction (SOI), copy will be provided upon acceptance.

Role Requirements

  • Security Clearance – Must hold an Australian National Security Clearance at the level of Top Secret (NV2) 
  • Sound knowledge and relevant qualifications and experience in monitoring communications equipment.
  • Sound problem solving skills, and execellent communication skills. 
  • Experience for Comms Officer (Watchkeepers/Signalers) – must have relevant experience for a min period of one year in a high risk environment
  • Formal Communications and IT related qualifications, highly desirable
  • Previous Afghanistan experience in a similar capacity is an advantage


Services provided by the Contractor shall be those typically expected for someone in the Position and include, but not be limited to the provision of ops support to ensure the safety and security of all client staff and other personnel who come under duty of care of Australian Embassy, Kabul. Services the Contractor can expect to carry out, would include: 


  • Completing routine shifts in the operations room in accordance with the watch keeper shift roster
  • maintaining all electronic equipment fitted to the Armoured Vehicles including but not limited to Electronic Countermeasure (ECM) Equipment, satellite phone, dash-cam, Digital Video Recording (DVR) and GPS tracking
  • Operating and maintaining communications equipment and services including all radio networks
  • 24/7 monitoring of all project communication networks (including handheld and base station radio communications, monitoring vehicle tracking system, responding to all incoming telephone calls, coordinating Australian Embassy booking tasking’s and coordinating with the communications cell on technical tasking)
  • Managing the frequency database
  • Managing deployed tactical radio systems and cryptographic handling
  • Maintaining and monitoring a satellite tracking capability for all mobile APT call signs
  • Maintaining tactical tracking hardware readiness and associated software
  • Configuring and maintaining Electronic Counter Measure equipment
  • Maintaining all communication logs and associated paperwork
  • Configuring and maintaining all IP networks including security camera networks
  • Providing  basic IT helpdesk support to the project
  • Assisting the client with IT and communications issues
  • Providing refresher training on all systems to Australian Embassy Personnel
  • Undertaking any other direction or reasonable request given by appropriate GardaWorld Management team in accordance with GW Standard Operating Procedures and Guidelines.
