Human Resources Assistant (6-Month Contract)

The Human Resources Assistant reports directly to Manager, Human Resources and Labour Relations. The HR Assistant will provide support to the Human Resources Department in all areas related to employee relations, scheduling, training, recruitment, loss control management and customer service. The candidate will also staff a front desk in the administration office and manage general inquires from employees.
Tasks & Duties
- Provides a high quality of service as the first point of contact to all employees and customer inquiries by following organization standards
- Maintains employee confidence and protects operations by keeping human resource information confidential
- In conjunction with the Performance Management and Labour Relations team – updates and maintains employee benefits, employment status changes, and similar records on HRIS databases
- Tracks upcoming expiries in RAICs and CATSA Medicals.
- Provides administrative support to all members within the Human Resources department by scheduling meetings/appointments, preparing documents, capturing minutes, events or other information
- Assists in planning, developing, implementing and evaluating human resources and labour relations strategies including job descriptions, training manuals, bulletin updates, policies, programs and procedures to address an organization's human resource requirements
- Performs file audits to ensure that all required employee documentation is collected and maintained
- Provides administrative support by entering, formatting, and printing information; organizing work; answering the telephone; relaying messages; maintaining equipment and supplies
- Other duties as assigned
Education & Skills Required
- Post secondary certification in Human Resources, Business Administration, Industrial Relations or related program is required. Working towards a CHRL/CHRP designation is considered an asset
- Proven customer service and people-oriented skills; dealing with diverse backgrounds, experience and styles
- Strong problem-solving, decision-making, detail oriented and organizational skills
- Exceptional ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality and discretion, exercise tact and diplomacy, and exhibit good judgement. Able to work independently with minimum supervision
- Ability to work under pressure with frequent interruptions while dealing with conflicting demands and distractions; ability to prioritize work, multi-task and meet deadlines
- Knowledge of current legislation, including the Canada Labour Code, Canadian Human Rights Act and Occupational Health and Safety Act
- Minimum of one year experience in client-focused, results-oriented HR environment with intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Outlook
- Flexibility to work evenings, weekends and holidays when needed
Additional requirement: Must be able to obtain a Restricted Area Identity Card (RAIC)
