As the Senior Manager of External Communications, you will play a critical role in shaping and implementing our organization's external communication strategies to effectively engage with stakeholders, enhance our brand reputation, and drive business objectives. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in developing and executing successful external communication campaigns, strong leadership capabilities, and exceptional communication skills.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement comprehensive external communication strategies that align with the organization's goals and objectives.
- Lead a team of communication professionals, providing guidance, mentorship, and feedback to ensure high-performance and professional development.
- Serve as a spokesperson and media contact for the organization, maintaining strong relationships with media outlets and proactively managing media inquiries and interviews. US-based media experience is an asset.
- Craft and oversee the creation of compelling external communication materials, including press releases, articles, speeches, and presentations, including multimedia content.
- Develop and maintain relationships with external stakeholders, such as industry associations, government agencies, partners, and community organizations, to foster collaboration and enhance the organization's reputation.
- Monitor industry trends, market developments, and public perception to identify communication opportunities and potential risks, and proactively develop strategies to address them.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including marketing, public relations, and executive leadership, to align external communication efforts with overall organizational initiatives.
- Support crisis communication and issues management, providing strategic guidance and developing effective messaging during challenging situations.
- Measure and evaluate the effectiveness of external communication efforts through data analysis and metrics and provide recommendations for continuous improvement.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, or a related field.
- Minimum of ten years of experience in external communications, public relations, or related roles, preferably in a B2B environment.
- Experience managing communications in transformation or start-up environments with fast-paced, self-starter cultures preferred.
- Strong leadership and management skills, with a proven track record of leading and developing high-performing teams.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to tailor messaging for diverse audiences and channels.
- Extensive experience in developing and executing successful external communication strategies, including media relations, thought leadership initiatives, and stakeholder engagement.
- Deep understanding of global media landscapes, industry trends, and best practices in external communications.
- Strong relationship-building skills, with the ability to engage and influence stakeholders at all levels, both internally and externally.
- Crisis communication and issues management expertise, with the ability to navigate sensitive and high-pressure situations effectively.
- Proficiency in digital communication platforms and multimedia content approaches.
- Strategic mindset, with the ability to think creatively and deliver innovative communication solutions that drive business objectives.
