Training Representative

Reporting to the Training Delivery Manager, the Screening Contractor Training Representatives (SCTRs) are full-time dedicated resources who support CATSA’s National Training & Certification Program and other responsibilities as determined by CATSA. SCTRs play a crucial role in conducting training activities and ensuring compliance with the established training standards and guidelines. 

 

 

Key Responsibilities: 

 

  • Training Delivery: Carry out training activities as outlined in the CATSA Training Responsibilities Overview. This includes delivering training sessions to Screening Officers, following the guidelines and materials provided by CATSA. 

  • Compliance: Ensure adherence to the model parameters contained in the CATSA Training Programs Overview. Complete all required training and maintain Certification equivalency as specified by CATSA. 

  • Documentation: Keep accurate records of training sessions, including attendance, evaluations, and any other required documentation. 

  • Collaboration: Collaborate with CATSA and other relevant stakeholders to ensure training materials, processes, and procedures are up to date and aligned with the latest industry standards and regulations. 

  • Professional Development: Stay updated with changes in policies, procedures, and technologies related to the screening process and security measures. Continuously enhance personal knowledge and skills through professional development opportunities. 

  • Non-Screening Time Support: Perform any assigned roles and responsibilities as established under processes set out in One Hour Non-Screening Time for Screening Officers. This may include administrative tasks, quality assurance, or other duties as designated by the Screening Contractor. 

 

 

Education 

 

  • Candidates must have a high school diploma, GED, or equivalent certificate.  

  • No post-secondary education is required for this position.  

 

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities 

 

  • Previous experience in training delivery or instructional roles is preferred. 

  • Strong knowledge of CATSA training programs, procedures, and guidelines. 

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills. 

  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational and record-keeping abilities. 

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team. 

  • Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and handle multiple tasks simultaneously. 

  • Demonstrated commitment to continuous learning and professional development. 

  • Retaining and implementing knowledge of all applicable Standard Operating Procedures 

  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills.   

  • Ability to communicate effectively during moments of high stress.  

  • Works well in a team environment.

  • Knowledge and or genuine interest in aviation security

Competencies  

 

  • Technical: operating the equipment as per the air security standard operating protocols (SOP). Must operate at a high level of effectiveness and proficiency to ensure strict adherence to the SOPs. Recognizing and responding promptly and evidence-informedly if a threat is detected or suspected.   Must ensure vigilance to stay up to date on all SOP.  

  • Communication:  The ability to communicate clearly, as well as actively listen. Must be able to relay information effectively and efficiently to passengers and coworkers.  

  • Interpersonal skills:  must be able to maintain a calm, polite, and professional demeanour during potentially stressful encounters.   Teamwork with coworkers is critical. Build positive relationships with internal and external clients,  gaining their trust and respect. 

  • Vigilance:  the ability to be alert and focused at all times. Excellent observation skills to notice any irregularities or suspicious activity. 

  • Critical thinking: make decisions promptly, occasionally with incomplete information. Must be able to respond appropriately, critically, and independently to various security-related situations. 

 

 

Working Conditions 

 

  • Physical requirements include but are not limited to standing for long periods, lifting/pushing/pulling luggage or other items, bending, squatting, crouching, and kneeling. 

  • Ability to identify colour, shapes, forms, and features (e.g. X-ray images).  

  • The flexibility of motion: moderate lifting, pulling or pushing of bags and other items weighing up to 25 kilograms.  

  • Hand dexterity is required to use security instruments and equipment for screening. 

  • It is required to reach above the shoulder and below shoulder level.  

  • Performing searches and screening may include physical interaction with people (e.g., physical search of person). 

  • Depending on certification and deployment, working outdoors in various conditions during the year for short periods. 

  • Work on a set schedule during operational hours (e.g. morning, afternoon, evening, overnight), potentially including weekends and holidays. Shifts are not always flexible and vary from airport to airport.
