What matters most in this role is your ability to read the environment, anticipate potential risks, and act accordingly. Your strong observation skills, sound judgment, and professional communication are essential to maintaining a safe and secure site.

As a Traffic Control Security Guard with Gardaworld, physical ability is important, as you will be on your feet and moving throughout your entire shift. You will be responsible for controlling vehicle and pedestrian traffic, monitoring access points, and maintaining safety within an active industrial environment.

Responsibilities for Traffic Control

  • Primary Duties

    • Control traffic flow using signs, flags, hand signals, or communication devices.
    • Ensure safety of workers, pedestrians, and motorists in and around the work zone.
    • Set up and remove traffic control devices (cones, barrels, barricades, signage) according to approved plans.
    • Communicate clearly with drivers, pedestrians, and equipment operators.
    • Maintain visibility and alertness at all times; stay positioned safely.
    • Follow traffic control plans and applicable laws, regulations, and standards.
    • Coordinate with other TCPs to manage alternating or multi-directional traffic.
    • Monitor site conditions (weather, visibility, congestion) and adjust controls as needed.
    • Respond to emergencies by stopping traffic and alerting supervisors or emergency services.
    • Document incidents or near-misses and report hazards.

    Safety & Compliance Responsibilities

    • Wear required PPE (high-visibility vest, hard hat, safety boots, eye/ear protection).
    • Conduct pre-shift checks of signage and equipment.
    • Enforce speed reductions and safe passage for pedestrians and cyclists.
    • Ensure access for emergency vehicles at all times.

    Professional Conduct

    • Remain calm, courteous, and firm with the public.
    • Avoid distractions; no phone use while controlling traffic.
    • Follow company policies and local/occupational safety regulations.

Qualifications for Traffic Control

  • Be authorized to work in Canada
  • Hold a valid Traffic Control Certificate
  • Class 5 Driver's License
  • Reliable access to a personal vehicle for travel to and from the work site
