Responsibilities for Control Centre Guard

  • Ensuring the safety and security of the entire facility at all times by monitoring CCTV.
  • Controlling entry and exit of individuals and vehicles to and from the facility. Control will only allow access after positive identification of authorized individuals who do not have access cards.
  • Being familiar with all facility emergency procedures, and directing the response to any emergencies, in collaboration with the Shift Supervisor.
  • Issuing room assignments, bed assignments, and log numbers of new intakes of individuals, as requested.
  • Coordinating with the Shift Supervisor to dispatch guards to conduct exterior patrols.
  • Using the public address system, radio, and telephones to communicate with Contractor resources in their respective areas of monitoring, as necessary.
  • Responding to all alarms and trouble signals from any of the monitoring systems in their designated areas of monitoring, and taking appropriate action, as well as notifying the Shift Supervisor.
  • Completing property intake and release of individuals.
  • Facilitating individuals' requests.
  • Receiving and distributing phone messages and mail, if required.
  • Intercepting contraband entering and leaving the facility.
  • Accurately maintaining facility logs.

Qualifications for {Skill} Security Guard

  • Valid BC Security Guard License
  • Valid First Aid Level 1 (OFA1) – an asset
  • Advanced Security Training (AST) – an asset
  • Must have resided in Canada for the past 5 years
  • High school diploma or equivalent (proof of education required)
  • Able to pass Public Works Clearance and Vulnerable Sector Check
  • Minimum 1–2 years of experience in security, dispatch, monitoring, or a related operational environment preferred.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, both verbal and written.
  • Proficient in the use of computer systems, CCTV monitoring platforms, access control systems, and radio communications equipment.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to accurately complete logs, reports, and documentation.
  • Strong observation skills with the ability to identify and assess potential security risks quickly and accurately.
