Place of work/Travel:

Nairobi, Kenya with regular travel within the EA region, and occasional international travel to GW operations site

Contact and Cooperation:

Internally: Focus on SLT, Regional Finance Director, Regional Country & Finance Managers, Dubai and Montreal Finance and Technical Teams.

Externally: Local and International Technology Partners, Suppliers, Technology Consultants and relevant Government Agencies

Job outline:


The incumbent is responsible for implementing technology strategies across the Kenya business.

The role will provide management of product and solutions selection, consultancy, design, implementation, commissioning, testing, hand over, operations and maintenance; which may be delivered independently or as part of an advanced infra-structure, integrated security solution for one or more clients throughout Kenya. Additionally, the Technical Solutions Manager is responsible for the selection, vetting and management of any outsourced consultants and contractors, technical staff and technical sales resources and the training and certification of all in Regional Technical staff.

Key Responsibilities


  • Work with Embassies, International and Local Security Consultants/Operations to design, install and manage security solutions.
  • Lead and drive the development of the Kenya solutions/technical division in line with strategic business plans and values, working closely and collaboratively with the other divisions to assist in the delivery of cohesive, high quality, high impact projects.
  • Work with the Senior Management Team to assess and evaluate technical needs with respect to impact and effectiveness of projects.
  • Manage all projects within the set budget, timelines, and standards. This includes project management of small, medium, large and enterprise consultancy, design and engineering projects.
  • Develop forecasts and technical budgets and control the spending on OPEX and CAPEX; effectively ensure costs are controlled, the department maximises revenue generation and contribution to the Company’s operating profit.
  • Participate in the procurement process by providing technical support to the sourcing, selection, tendering of any requirements in support of a project, and assist with the negotiation of rates and terms with preferred suppliers. Maintain strict compliance with the company procurement policy.
  • Work with the management team in the development of the Company’s overall technical strategy and seek to positively influence the progression and growth of the technical division to GW’s International standards.
  • Responsible for production of strategic security and engineering deliverables, drawings, documentation, reports, and presentation materials. This covers Security Strategy Reports, Security Audits, Security Risk Assessments, BMS Systems design, Fire detection & suppression systems design, Security Operations Reports (CCTV, ACS etc.).
  • Maintain ownership of deliverables, Concept Design Reports & Drawings, Scheme Design Reports & Drawings, Network Topology Design & Drawings, Detailed Design Reports & Drawings, Engineering Calculations (including Power, UPS, Network, Bandwidth, and Storage etc.), BoM and BoQ Reports.
  • Support the Commercial team in business development activities by identifying new leads and opportunities to ensure profitable but cost-effective solutions are offered.
  • Represent the Company during consultations with potential clients, government agencies and industry associates connected to specific projects.
  • Enforce compliance to set laws, regulations and customer requirements governing technical business operations.
  • Evaluate Technical division reports and ensure that internal and external stakeholders, including the Senior Management Team, are kept abreast of GW’s technical developments.
  • Commission and undertake security surveys and security risk assessments; and present findings of work to team members and clients as needed.
  • . Gather information and conduct technical research on project specific solutions.
  •  Stay informed on latest technical security developments such as latest products and available solutions
  • Manage technical staff capacity and work output to effectively meet departmental expectations

  • Source & select world class products and solutions in line with GW Global requirements;
  • Ensure solutions and products are procured cost effectively and supply line is continuous;
  • Ensure all resources are trained and certified to support all chosen products and solutions;
  • Achieve planned projects within the set budgets and resources;
  • Technical operations efficiency and cost reduction in accordance to the set parameter;
  • Technical and operational excellence by managing quality, cost effective, time driven projects delivery;
  • Ensure highly motivated operations and sales staff with clear roles and responsibilities;
  • Ensure operations consider regulatory, safety, health and environment compliance;
  • Ensure accuracy in all required reports



The Technical Solutions Manager is accountable to the Technical Solutions Director, Africa, and the Managing Director, Kenya for the responsibilities stated in this job description. These responsibilities will be monitored and managed through the mid-year and annual performance review and supported through the monitoring of KPIs.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Professional qualification in Design Technology, Engineering, Security and Risk Management and strategy or any related field.
  • Minimum ten (10) years technical experience in the Security industry with at least five (5) years' in the infrastructure / facilities security sector at a management level.
  • Specialised knowledge in residential and commercial alarm systems/full enterprise integrated solutions and alarm response to include integration with home automation, security/fire control and building management systems.
  • Demonstrable experience of large scale and complex technology security solutions in at least 4 key sectors being Oil & Gas, Hospitality, Large Commercial Buildings, Education Sector, New Builds/Mixed Use Development Projects, Health Care, Retail & Financial Services.
  • Advanced knowledge of MS Word, Excel, MS Project, PowerPoint, CRM.
  • In-depth knowledge of the latest physical and electronic security systems suitable to Embassies, International and Local entities including excellent technical / product knowledge of all types of security, cloud based storage and analytics, off-site monitoring for Embassies, International and Local entities, fire and BMS systems and solutions such as but not limited to CCTV, IT networking, Access Control, Video Management Systems, Security Command Centres / Remote Monitoring, Tracking and Alarms.
  • Ability to understand, apply and author project documentation, including but not limited to Technical Standards, Manufacturers Product Specifications, Customer Requirement Documents, Design, Quality & Performance, Specifications, Safety, Reliability & Regulatory Standards, Operations and Maintenance Manuals and Protocols.
